AFS+ – THE ULTIMATE FLUE SOLUTION

Designed in Norway for Scandinavian construction, the VisionLINE Air Flue System Plus (AFS+) builds on the advantages of our IFS flue, including 95% noise reduction, a full powder-coated finish, durable stainless-steel construction, and BAL-FZ approval. Like the IFS, it prevents heat loss by eliminating the need for room air to cool the flue.

AFS+ is a complete flue system solution with a unique coaxial design that allows it to draw combustion air from outside. The inner 150mm active pipe is wrapped in Morgan Ceramic insulation, while a 25mm air gap between the inner and outer pipes enables fresh air to flow to the unit’s outside air intake, creating a balanced flue fireplace.

For seamless connection, AFS+ features an adjustable snorkel, or for units with a concentric spigot — such as the VisionLINE Circle, VisionLINE Pera, or Jøtul 171 — the flue simply plugs into the spigot for balanced flue operation.

Revolutionary Design Features of Our Insulated Flue Pipe

The VisionLINE insulated flue kit incorporates cutting-edge technology that addresses the distinctive challenges of modern Australian home construction. The system’s adjustable snorkel allows stress-free connection to a variety of fireplace models, while units with concentric spigots like the VisionLINE Circle or Pera simply plug in for immediate balanced flue operation. This versatility makes installation straightforward regardless of your specific fireplace configuration.

What truly distinguishes this insulated flue pipe system is its CE-certified ceramic insulation blanket. Engineers tested this advanced insulation to withstand temperatures exceeding 1,750°C and pressure of 123 kg/m³, delivering peak performance while maintaining the minimum possible clearance requirements. The ceramic fibre technology maintains structural integrity and safety, meeting the stringent EN testing requirements that no other flue system in Australia can match.

The powder-coated exterior adds aesthetic appeal and provides crucial protection against corrosion and weather damage. Unlike high-temperature wet paint systems, manufacturers specifically designed our powder coating for exterior use, allowing for the installation of a sleek black-finished pipe that complements any architectural style while maintaining durability in all types of weather conditions.

Why Choose Us
  • Roof Support

    Roof Support

VisionLINE flue systems offer optional adjustable roof supports, designed to make pipe installation above the roof both simple and secure. These robust adjustable arms ensure stability, even in high winds, and meet the requirements for pipes that need to clear obstructions in compliance with AS/NZS 2918.

  • Warranty

    Warranty

VisionLINE flue systems are backed by a 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover damage resulting from incorrect installation or misuse beyond product specifications.

  • Bushfire Attack Level

    Bushfire Attack Level

In certain Australian regions, Bushfire Attack Levels (BAL) assess the risk of bushfire impact. The construction risk varies based on the rating in your area, which may require specific building materials and methods. VisionLINE’s AFS+ and IFS flue systems are tested and rated to the highest BAL-FZ standard, in accordance with AS 1530.8.2 and AS 3959. This ensures that you can safely install a wood fireplace in a BAL-FZ zone while remaining fully compliant.

  • CE-Certified

    CE-Certified Ceramic Insulation

All VisionLINE insulated flue systems use a CEcertified ceramic insulation blanket. This ceramic fibre insulation delivers optimal performance for clearance and structural integrity, ensuring quality and safety. The blanket is tested to CE standards and can withstand temperatures above 1,750°C and 123 kg/m³ pressure, as per EN testing requirements. This allows for the minimum possible clearance with a 25mm insulated flue pipe.

  • Testing

    Testing

All VisionLINE flue systems undergo rigorous testing per Appendix F of AS/NZS 2918, covering the installation of venting pipes through the roof. Both IFS and AFS+ pipes also hold an opinion letter for Appendix B of AS/NZS 2918, which addresses appliance and pipe clearance within the room. Additionally, AFS+ is CE-EN-NO 1856 certified, which tests for tensile and compressive strength, wind load performance, aerodynamic stability under wind tunnel conditions, and gas tightness from unit to termination. This testing includes scenarios in enclosed environments, such as passive home envelopes. It’s the only flue system in Australia with this certification.

  • Powder-Coated Finish

All VisionLINE flue systems feature a strong and durable powder-coated finish. Powder coating not only adds a stylish touch to your flue system but also provides a protective layer for the outer flue, making it ideal for areas exposed to harsh environmental conditions, including seaside locations. Additionally, powder coating enables the outdoor installation of a black-finished pipe, unlike high-temperature wet paint, which is not designed for exterior use.

Our Insulated Flue Kit Helps With Energy Productivity for Modern Homes

Modern Australian buildings are becoming increasingly energy-efficient and airtight, creating significant challenges for traditional fireplace installations. The VisionLINE insulated flue kit addresses these concerns through its innovative outside air design. By drawing combustion air directly from outside, the system operates independently of your home’s interior air supply, eliminating cold drafts and keeping inside areas comfortable at all times.

In conventional setups, fireplaces draw warm air from your living space, creating negative pressure that pulls cold air through gaps and cracks. This minimises heating productivity and creates uncomfortable drafts that defeat the purpose of having a fire. Our insulated room sealed flue completely eliminates this issue, making certain all combustion air comes from outside while your heated indoor air remains exactly where it belongs.

The system’s productivity benefits extend beyond comfort. By maintaining proper air balance within your home, the insulated flue kit helps minimise energy consumption and heating costs. This makes it an ideal choice for passive homes and high-productivity buildings where maintaining envelope integrity proves crucial for peak performance.

How to Select the Right Insulated Room Sealed Flue

Choosing the correct insulated flue kit involves considering several factors specific to your installation. Start by measuring the distance from your fireplace spigot to the roof penetration point, accounting for any necessary offsets or directional changes. Consider your local climate conditions and whether coastal exposure requires additional corrosion protection through our premium powder-coated options.

Assess your property’s construction type and energy productivity rating. Passive homes and well-insulated properties benefit significantly from the AFS+ system’s outside air capabilities, while traditional homes may find the standard configuration sufficient. Consider future modifications or renovations that might affect your flue system requirements, as our modular design allows for easy adaptation.

Consult your fireplace manufacturer’s specifications to verify compatibility with your chosen insulated flue pipe system. VisionLINE’s technical support team can assist with sizing calculations and component selection to achieve peak performance. Keep in mind that proper installation by qualified professionals proves crucial for safety and warranty compliance, so factor professional installation into your planning process.

IMPROVING EFFICIENCY WITH OUTSIDE AIR

As homes become more energy efficient, they also become more airtight. A slow combustion fireplace requires oxygen to burn properly. In older homes, this air is drawn naturally through gaps in doors, floors, or windows. However, energy-efficient and passive homes are designed to eliminate these leaks, which can prevent the fireplace from functioning correctly. With the VisionLINE Air Flue System Plus (AFS+), the fireplace receives combustion air directly from outside, independent of the home’s interior air supply. This ensures proper operation regardless of house pressure and eliminates cold drafts. In a traditional flue setup, air used by the fire must be replaced by drawing in cold air through cracks and gaps, creating unwanted drafts. Ever felt a chill while sitting in front of a fire? That’s your fireplace pulling air from the room. With AFS+, these drafts are completely eliminated, providing a more comfortable and efficient heating experience.

CERTIFIED FOR MODERN HOME DESIGN

Construction of homes and testing of flue kits is very different between Australia/New Zealand and Europe. In Australia we use what is called an open chase construction, which is an open cavity in walls and through the roof. Testing for flue systems in Australia via AS/NZS 2918 Appendix F simulates this with an open testing rig and high temperature gasses passing through the tested system.

EN testing assesses for closed envelope, or encased flue pipe. When you close off a cavity and box in the flue pipe, heat is trapped within the cavity causing it to pool and build — becoming extremely dangerous. AFS+ system is constructed and designed for this exact style of installation.

Being a Norwegian design, closed envelope is standard construction therefore the EN testing performed on the pipe allows passive home and high energy efficient installations.

AFS+ is the only flue system on the Australian and New Zealand market which holds this approval.

Safety Vent kits comprise of a basic configuration to suit Single Storey applications on most freestanding fireplaces.

Components such as the adjustable female stove pipe are available in three different sizes to suit different height ceilings and ensure the join line is centered between the heater and the transition to Safety Vent. The transition piece must be a minimum150mm from the ceiling and should be fitted to allow for the adjustable pipe to engage fully into the transition whilst still sealing to the male adjustable pipe.

Safety Vent kits with air include a 1mtr male adjustable T-section and adjustable snorkel to connect to the outside air intake onthe fireplace. Standard Safety Vent kits will be room sealed but will not provide outside air to the unit.

Extra Stove Pipe and Safety Vent lengths are available to extend the flue where necessary as well as 45 degree offsets and support brackets when required. Refer to the installation manual for detailed instructions.
